Kokand is listed as one of the World Craft Cities. This is the first city in Central Asia, which entered the list as a city of artisans. This decision was made before the start of the International Festival of Folk and Applied Arts.

Representatives of the World Crafts Council noted that craft is an integral part of culture and industry in Kokand. They also hope that Kokand will collaborate with other cities on the World Craft City list to create a common artisan platform around the world. The list was created in 2014 and today 30 cities worldwide are included in it.
In September Kokand will hold a festival of applied crafts. It will be attended by 200 craftsmen who came from 72 countries. The festival program will include 34 types of art.
During the celebration, a conference will also be held on the theme of the development of folk crafts. Attention was also paid to the guests, 3 hotels have already been opened and by the beginning of the festival 5 tourist houses will be available, where the latest repairs are being completed. In total, 30 objects will be available for tourists.
