Previously, Akhsikent was the capital of ancient Fergana and was a place of recreation along the Silk Road.

The city was engaged in crafts, made weapons made beautiful glass and pottery, but in 1620 the city was destroyed by an earthquake.
Only some part of the ruins, with an area of 60 hectares, has preserved its past history. Archaeologists have unearthed a blacksmith's workshop, a bathhouse, barracks, and a mosque, as well as irrigation systems and the ruler's Ark-Palace.
Shavkat Mirziyoev was commissioned to undertake the conservation Akhsikent.
